Thailand Part 1

Hua Hin

We met our friend Note at Bangkok airport who then drove us (at break neck speed) down to the resort area of Hua Hin. We used this opportunity to eat fresh seafood and local dishes, relax by the pool and visit a palace no longer used by the royal family.

We also caught up with P'Jha (another friend from our university days) and her family for her birthday. Our short stay in and around Hua Hin was brought to an end via another fast car ride to the capital thanks to Note. We then caught up with Chon's Aunties where we were spoilt rotten and then taken to an island on the river that was a large temple complex with no cars in sight.

Ayutthaya

Our next stop was North of Bangkok in the old capital Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya is a prelude to Angkor Wat in Cambodia as it is filled with ruined temples and is a fantastic place for self guided bicycle tours but it pays to mark off the ones you have visited as you may end up paying to see them more than once. Luckily that only happened once but it was still worth seeing the site again. To see the temple ruins further out we hired a tuk tuk for less than a cheap counter meal back home. We only spent one night in Ayutthya as we were worried about becoming "templed" out before our next destination, Angkor Wat.
